Have you taken a moment to think about the future of your land? Perhaps you already have a detailed plan in place; or perhaps, you haven’t given it any thought at all. Land succession can be a challenging thing to navigate, but there are resources to assist you. Join Somerset County Soil & Water Conservation District Wednesday, April 24 for a comfortable, informative session to get you started as you think about the future of your land. The workshop will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Somerset County Cooperative Extension meeting room, 7 County Dr. in Skowhegan.
Presenter Jessica Leahy is president of Maine Woodland Owners and a professor at the University of Maine School of Forest Resources. For this event, Jessica will instruct participants in how to build a foundation and get started as you think about the future of your land. Perhaps, you would like to sell, or give it to a family member, or put it into a conservation easement – Jessica will speak about the conversations that folks need to have with counterparts, when and if it makes sense to get other organizations involved, and will walk participants through the planning resource Your Land, Your Legacy. Each person who attends this event will go home with a copy of this booklet and a clear plan on how to get started. A light dinner will be provided.
A $5 registration fee helps to offset costs of materials and food. Please register by April 22 by phone/text 207-679-7306 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Taking the First Steps is cosponsored by the Upper Kennebec Chapter of the Maine Woodland Owners.
