Our Mission: 

To promote the conservation and stewardship of soil, water, woodlands and wildlife habitat through outreach, education and technical services for the farmers, woodland owners, residents and municipalities of Somerset County.

The District coordinates with USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, USDA-Farm Services Agency, Somerset County Cooperative Extension, Maine State agencies, Maine Woodland Owners and other organizations to help landowners implement best stewardship practices for their natural resources.

 

Current Projects/Activities include:

  • Ag Allies - Grassland Bird Project

  • Invasive Plant Assessments and Management Plans (IN PARTNERSHIP WITH A Maine Natural Areas Program Project)

  • Yankee Woodlot Demonstration Forest

  • Nutrient Management Plan Development

  • Woodlot Management Workshops
