Canon ENVIROTHON News - The 2011 Maine State Envirothon competition held on May 26, 2011 was won by Jay High School. This is the second year in a row that a team from Jay has won the event. Poland Spring, a longtime sponsor of the event, donated $500.00 to the winning team to assist in travel expenses as the students represent Maine in the international competition to be held in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada, July 24-29. USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an agency which provides leadership and technical assistance to address natural resource conservation issues, and longtime supporter of the event, will offer a summer internship to one of the students on the winning team.

Envirothon is a state- and nation-wide environmental competition where high school students test their knowledge of natural resources and current environmental issues. Teams consisting of 3-5 students compete first at a regional level, answering questions and solving hands-on problems at five stations: Wildlife, Water/Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, and a Current Natural Resource Issue.
